An aurora is a natural light display in the skyparticularly in the high latitude (Arctic andAntarctic) regions, caused by the collision ofenergetic charged particles with atoms in thehigh altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). Thecharged particles originate in themagnetosphere and solar wind and, on Earth,are directed by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere.
